I’m David Carter, the founder of Farmstead Guide.
Our story begins at Carter Farmstead in Texas, a farm that has been in our family for two generations, known for raising homesteading animals like chickens, ducks, quail, goats, and bees. From a young age, I grew up surrounded by animals and the rhythms of farm life, watching my parents and grandparents care for the land and livestock with dedication and passion.
Even the women in our family, mothers, grandmothers, and sisters have always been deeply involved in homesteading. Their love for animals, gardening, and sustainable farming inspired me and showed me that homesteading is truly a family tradition.
Why The Farmstead Guide?
A Legacy Since 2000
Our family farm, Carter Farmstead, here in Texas, has been going strong since 2000. In the beginning, we only had chickens and a few goats, but as time went on, my passion grew, and so did our farm. We added ducks, quail, and eventually bees, each one becoming a part of our homesteading journey. Living and working on the farm taught us a lot about caring for animals and homesteading the right way.
After more than two decades of hands-on experience, I decided it was time to bring that knowledge online through FarmsteadGuide.com. This site is just an extension of what we’ve been doing at Carter Farmstead all these years, sharing lessons we’ve learned, tips from fellow farmers, and advice from experts. It’s our way of keeping the legacy alive while helping others start or grow their own homestead.
It is my way of preserving our family’s homesteading heritage while helping others build their own thriving homesteads.
About the Owner

I’m David Carter, founder of FarmsteadGuide.com. Every article here is written by me, based on both research and my own real-life experience. I’ve spent over 20 years raising chickens, quail, ducks, goats, and bees on my family’s farm in Texas, so I’ve pretty much lived the homesteading life inside out.
On Farmstead Guide, I share not just facts, but lessons, tips, and wisdom gained along the way. My goal is to help you care for your animals and build a happy, healthy, sustainable homestead.
And most importantly, I want this space to feel like a friendly guide you can always trust and turn to for down-to-earth homesteading advice.
